What turns reading into CPD
Three things: the article is relevant to your work, it was written and reviewed by people qualified in the subject, and you do something to show you took it in.
The reflection step
Under our Standard, an article-based activity ends with two or three questions. They are not trick questions. They ask you to connect the article to your practice. For example:
- What is one thing in this article that differs from how you currently work?
- What would you need to change to apply it?
- Who else in your team should know about this?
Your answers, with the date, are your evidence. Several regulators ask specifically for reflection in CPD records. New Zealand lawyers, for instance, keep a CPD plan and record that includes reflecting on what they learned.

How much time to claim
Claim the time it took. Short articles are typically a quarter or half an hour. If a provider offers two hours for a five-minute read, treat that as a warning about the provider.
